Nonnas...a history
When we opened in 1996 we had the ambition to share our passion of authentic Italian foods and the country’s fabulous and diverse wines with the British public. We has no great business plan, just a desire to bring the true taste of Italian life and its culture to our part of the world.
There were plenty of Italian restaurants in Sheffield and there was a strong, tight- knit community of Italians who had come to Britain mainly to work in restaurants . But there was no true, authentic taste of those things we took for granted- the real flavour the country that our parents, and generations of our families before them, had nutured. It was our dream to open the eyes of the British public to creamy cappuccinos, strong dark espressos and the delights of the traditional mortadella, parmesan and pastas of all shapes and sizes.
We had no idea where our dream would lead us when we bought the former butcher’s shop on the corner of Ecclesall Road and Hickmott Road. With the traditional culinary skills of our Italian ancestors to fall back on and the support of our parents, families and friends, Nonna’s was born.
Now 13 years later, we have expanded both sides and are nearly bursting with ideas, a long bar dominates one side, 2 rooms for the all day caffe and restaurant and the other side a loving Italian delicatessen, making all goods in house. But that’s not all, with a Tuscan rentable holiday villa for 2- 10 people in the hills of Pescia (between Florence and Pisa) and a catering company (Nonna’s Catering), we can now do so much more?

Nonna's embraces new worthy cause
OK, there are easier ways to take in the 6 Nations Championship but Lawrence Dallaglio has never been one to shirk a challenge. On the 12th February, Lawrence Dallaglio, alongside a bunch of celebrity mates and over 250 brave and generous people to include our very own Gian Bohan, will be cycling to all of the 6 Nations stadia starting in Rome then onto Paris, Twickenham, Cardiff, Dublin and finishing in Edinburgh on 13th March... the target, to raise £1 million for charity. That’s 24 days in the saddle and over 2,800 kilometres and more importantly... in the middle of winter - otherwise known as utter madness.
Gian will be taking part in at least one stage (430km) and hopefully more!! All to raise One Million Pounds for the Lawrence Dallaglio Foundation which supports Cancer Research UK (as well as many other charities), a cause close to his heart, after losing both parents to this indiscriminate disease.
As Gian puts it, "my chance to make a difference means blood, sweat and tears and a very sore backside, BUT I cannot do it without YOU! I know there are many worthy causes to donate to, but for those who know me, I rarely come cap in hand..... so please donate generously, I will greatly appreciate it...”
This immense challenge is all about raising money for Sport Relief and the newly formed Dallaglio Foundation. Every mile cycled is more cash in the charity pot. The net proceeds from the challenge will be split equally between Sport Relief and the Dallaglio Foundation.
Nonna’s not only embraces these worthy causes but of course Gian in this brave endeavour-
So we ask that you will allow us to add £1 to your bill for the month of February, so we can make a contribution towards raising the £1 million pounds needed.

Thanks to you...
In January, we handed over to Streetsmart £2500 on behalf of our guests in Sheffield and Chesterfield.
During December, whilst guests enjoy their festive parties and dinners, we add a voluntary £1 per table onto each bill. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to provide this magnificent sum. The monies are now distributed back to the local area of both Sheffield and Chesterfield by Streetsmart
Thank- you
Gian, Maurizio and Daniel

TERRE DI PUGLIA- NONNAS EXTRA VIRGIN OIL IS BACK...
“Terre di Puglia” is a testament to the Rubini Family, owners of a four hectare olive grove donated to their ancestors by a feudatory (Countess Siciliano) in the middle ages. Since then, generations of Rubinis have been lovingly growing olives and handing down the grove and the knowledge to their successors. This olive oil, produced exclusively for Nonnas, is a family matter rooted in tradition, history and pure passion for the land and its produce". The proof is in the taste!
